Frequently Asked Questions
Who are you?
We are a group of mainly adults who enjoy playing World of Warcraft for its RP, PVE and PVP, as well as, most importantly, the out of character friendships we forge through our exploration of the game. We're friends, IC and OOC, bound together with common purpose - we want to have fun with each other in this game.
We try to have as little politics and drama as possible and try to nourish an open and honest environment based on respect and friendship. There is an open door policy with all officers and senior members, and we try our best to deal with any problems right away. If you don't let us know there's a problem, we can't solve it, so it will only fester and form into something huge and ugly that will end up hurting people (perhaps people you don’t intend to or even want to hurt!).
How long have you been around?
Jumwa and Anjasa lead the guild from November 3, 2006, beginning on Blackwater Raiders (US) and moving to Moon Guard in May, 2008 before retiring in May, 2011. Westlynn, a long standing member was trained for several months before being promoted to Regeant and Guild Master, In Character and Out of Character and has been leading the Tribe since. Most of our members have been with us many months, and our more senior members have been with us for years.
Is your guild chat in-character or out-of-character?
Guild chat is in-character with a separate out-of-character channel. In-character we communicate by use of a talisman enchanted with voodoo magic that you will receive after your interview.
What is your policy regarding alts?
Alts of members are welcome in the Tribe with an ‘assumed’ interview and application. Alts are welcome regardless of their level. If the character you would like to join BTT with is an alt (that is, you have a main you don't intend putting in the Tribe) we will judge on an individual basis, however we prefer main-characters. Keep in mind that the Tribe is active and if you don't play somewhat frequently on that character you may feel out of the loop or uninvolved in current plots and relationships.
What is the Tribe leadership like?
Westlynn and the officers are there for a dual purpose. In-character, it is to lead; out-of-character, it is to coordinate and problem solve. All full members (Tribesmates and up) are able and encouraged to handle questions, potential problems, and ideas for new events as well helping us to keep a casual, laid back attitude. Behind the scenes, we're always talking of new ways to make the Tribe more enjoyable for our members. We try to run it as close to an open community as possible, with everyone being given an opportunity to give input on everything regarding the direction of the Tribe.
What is it like being in the BTT?
Well, frankly… it's fun. We're a laid back, casual group who love the game and love speaking with each other and joking around, out-of-character. In-character, we're a supportive group that, though we sometimes disagree or don't always get along, we talk things out and push past. Both in-character and out-of-character, what it boils down to is friendship. The best way to get a proper feeling for us is to get involved with us; chat with us often, post on the forums, ask if anyone is interested in joining you for RP, for a raid, for an instance, for a group, for anything! We may not always be available, but initiative to get to know us is never a bad thing!
Are there many disagreements and arguments in-character?
Sometimes, though most are often solved quickly by either letting your character take a breather and come back a little less hot headed, or by discussing, out-of-character, with the other people you're RPing with how best to resolve the problem that would make everyone's character happy. It’s always best to sleep on something that upsets you before acting rashly – this typically ends badly for you and us.
Though not all RP has to be happy, and not all members need to like each other in-character, we strive to make sure that something in-character won't have the potential of going too far and having a friend leave because of it. Everyone is encouraged to be kind to one another or, at least, to keep quiet, even when the leaders aren’t around.
If you feel, at any time, uncomfortable with something going on in a role playing scenario, please contact the person you're RPing with and let them know. If nothing can be resolved privately, come to Jumwa, myself or any officer and we'll do our best to resolve it.
What are you looking for in new members?
We're looking for laid back, humorous people who will be around often and will be willing to commit themselves to making the Tribe better. We'd love someone who loves the game, loves RP, and loves experiencing the game from an RP perspective and whom is around enough that we get to know them!
How do I go about getting promotions?
Promotions will be given based on general encouragement of the growth of RP as well as the Tribe and the individuals in the Tribe. The best way to start your path to a promotion is to post you character's biography on the forum, as this is the only tangible requirement for promotion. Other things that you should do to get promoted is things such as contributing trade skill materials to the bank or to guild members, hosting your own RP/PVE/PVP events, promoting RP within the game by staying in-character throughout the world, and just being a kind and supportive member. We usually wait a minimum of two months before promoting members from initiate in order to determine if they fit in – this can vary depending on your availability. If you’re not around very often it may take much longer for people to form a full opinion of you!
What happens if I want to leave the Tribe?
If you feel, at any time, that you don’t fit into the Tribe or that you’re simply not enjoying your time as much as you’d like, that’s absolutely fine. We do like to do ‘exit interviews’ as it were which will simply be you telling us why you want to leave, and listing any reasons you have.
We wish all our ex-members the best in their pursuits and we don’t endeavour to be the catch-all guild for everyone. If you leave on a respectful note, there’s absolutely no reason to be shy with your reasons for leaving! If there’s a problem that you’re specifically having in the guild, it would be best to speak with us specifically about the problem to see if it can’t be resolved before you leave, though!
Even if you are upset when leaving, we implore you to be respectful and not to burn any bridges - it may have repercussions that you don't expect, including alienating people you wish to remain friends with.
Westlynn, as well as the rest of BTT, will never come between you and your friends, even after you leave the Tribe – that would be a stress that we just do not want in our lives! Rest assured that the friendships you make in BTT can and will continue when you leave on a positive tone! :D
